i like the pithiness of this quote but i am not sure i agree. i think writing for the sake of it, just to see how the words look together on the page, (the way gary winogrand’s reason for photographing things was to see what things look like photographed) and how they make you feel and what they make you think, are perfectly good reasons to write — and often enough i only write to make myself laugh. but perhaps those are consequences too…
