"...the thingness of something becomes apparent when it is no longer functioning as it did before or it becomes dysfunctional or if it appears in an unexpected place..."
I cried my eyes out in 1970 when the Beatles released their last single, Let It Be. The Beatles were my heroes. They made my life bearable, at least for the three and a half minutes during which they were singing, or seven minutes and 12 seconds in the case of Hey Jude, their songs were magic tokens, but they were endless because you could put the record player on repeat and the arm would lift off the record at the end, magically return to the beginning and drop the needle into the beginning of the groove. You’d wear out the record eventually but even that didn’t matter because each time you listened you are also reinscribing the record with your listening, the record becomes an index of your playing it. help. i need somebody help. it could be anybody help. you know i need someone… heeeelp! The Beatles took a sad song and made it better, and in doing so they saved my life.
