"...the thingness of something becomes apparent when it is no longer functioning as it did before or it becomes dysfunctional or if it appears in an unexpected place..."
The word delulu comes from K-pop where it is used to describe a parasocial, obsessive fan but now, at least on TikTok, it means having so much self-confidence that you completely refuse to believe anything else — or what does it mean?
The delulu assumption of one 28-year-old content creator from Austin, Texas on TikTok was that her work is important and everyone is going to love it. And lo! Now she has 3 billion followers.
Another 27-year-old New York TikToker, is quoted as saying, like, delulu just has a little more fun, a little more flavor, it’s a little more silly than delusional. Delusional is rooted in almost like you’re losing your mind. Delulu is, like, I’m just being a silly little goofster.
It’s the idea of manifestation but simplified in terms that the everyday, non-witchy-archetype would understand. It means to live unexpectedly and with the intent to create a world where you are that character narrating your own story.
The whole article (from the Grauniad) is really a fun read but those were some of the highlights for this non-witchy-archteype living unexpectedly. I mean, like, raise your hand if you think you are not just being a silly little goofster.
